EGS Australia and Ocean Winds commence surveying for the High Sea Wind offshore wind farm.

Gippsland, Victoria, 31/03/2026

EGS Australia has begun a four-month geophysical survey off the coast of Gippsland, Victoria on behalf of offshore wind energy leaders Ocean Winds.

The survey will obtain vital bathymetric and subsurface data which will inform the project design, including prospective locations of wind turbines as well as the subsea cable routes.

With our offshore ship working in tandem with a smaller inshore vessel, EGS will survey the 150 km2 site, acquiring accurate bathymetry, identifying existing seabed infrastructure and potential geohazards, determining seabed morphology and classification and identifying locations for the preliminary geotechnical survey.

Subject to the results of these surveys, and the relevant approvals, the High Sea Wind project aims to generate 1.3 GW of clean, renewable energy, powering the equivalent of 1 million Victorian homes each year whilst avoiding 5.3 million tonnes of CO2 emissions.

Pelayo Rodriguez Alonzo, Head of Business Development for Japan and Asia Pacific at Ocean Winds notes that “comprehensive geophysical data is fundamental to designing an offshore wind project that is safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible. These surveys mark an important milestone for High Sea Wind as we continue to build a strong technical foundation.”

Charles Collins, EGS Australia’s Chief Surveyor and the Project Manager adds, “We are delighted to be working with Ocean Winds on a project which will bring enormous benefits to millions of Australians. Operating multiple vessels and using numerous survey techniques in an environment such as the Bass Strait offers a real challenge, but it’s one that EGS Australia is uniquely equipped for, thanks both to our in-house expertise and strong partnerships in the region.”
